Everybody should hunt
Why do I say everybody should hunt? It's human-scale, not industrial scale. It's really not cruel. The animals get to live outside. They're free until the very end. It's a natural life, out in the fresh air, out in the woods.
It's healthy meat. Because the animals live out in the wild, they are not confined in buildings, and they are not given antibiotics. They don't stand around in their own feces and urine. They get to move. They're not confined to crates, stalls, or pens.
The kill rate per hour is relatively low. In one day, how many animals per hour does a hunter kill? How many people around the country hunt?
When you hunt and kill an animal, you're directly involved. You are conscious of what it's going to take to get the meat. You're prepared to kill. You're prepared to bleed that animal out, eviscerate it, skin it, and do whatever else is needed to process it. Or you can pay someone else to do it, but chance ares, they aren't an illegal immigrant or an ex-felon. You pay that person a living wage to do some dirty work. The food you get will be safe.
Compare this to the meat you get at the fast food place, the grocery store, or even a restaurant. You don't know anything about where that product came from. You may not even realize it was alive once. You don't know how it lived, or where it lived. You have no idea what was involved in processing it from live animal to food on your plate, because you didn't do any of it.
So I'm not anti-killing. I'm not anti-meat. But I do believe that factory farms are cruel, bad for the environment, and present significant issues for food safety. Ditto all of the above for slaughterhouses and, they exploit the people who work at them. When was the last time you toured a slaughterhouse? Never?
I've known people who condemn hunting, but who eat meat from all the usual places. That's hypocritical. There's no difference, except hunting is orders of magnitude less cruel. Nobody is going to stop the hunters from hunting. They love it. People have been hunting for tens of thousands of years, at least. It's a somewhat fair contest. Now, if hunters had to hunt shoeless and naked, with no weapon, and if the animals all had super-sonic hearing, and could temporarily become invisible at will, then it might be a truly fair and equal contest.
Of course, you don't have to hunt to get healthy meat. You can get domesticated meat from a family farm, such as: maitlandfamilyfarm.com (no affiliation).
And for those who want to keep eating meat from all the usual places, fine, go ahead, that's your business. Too much of it will eventually kill you, but if you're OK with that, go ahead. But don't knock hunting until you've tried it.
I'm as much in favor of family farms as hunting. If everyone hunted, and had a family farm, there could be venison and local beef at every grocery store, instead of who knows what from who knows where.
Of course, I'm not saying everybody should eat meat. That's a personal decision. I'm also not saying nobody should eat meat either. Again, a personal decision. But if we have laws against cruelty to animals, they should apply to all animals. Animals used for food should not be exempted. In factory farms, they are exempted, and there is all kinds of cruelty.
Of course, I don't know what hunters think about slaughtering huge numbers of animals just for sport or for fun. And I don't imagine that many hunters skip the usual sources of beef, pork, and poultry.
One of the things that doesn't make sense is the government buying huge quantities of pork from pork producers and then doing what with it? Giving it to people who might not want it? Price supports for industries based on animal products wouldn't even exist if everybody hunted or had family farms. Does the government buy surplus pork from family farmers?
I doubt it.
So, if you want to eat it, you should be willing to KILL it. Or at least, pay someone who lives or farms near you to kill it for you.
I don’t really have any content for this domain. Just the name, really, and this text. I could see monetizing it by putting in ads for various hunting supply companies, or people who process your kill. The bleeding hearts who I know I’m sure will say, “How could you do that?” but why not? Maybe get people to stop and think about what they’re eating.
We need more forest and fewer mega-malls. More farms and fewer strip malls. More woods and fewer parking lots.
